Becoming an Alumnus
December 21st, 2006

NPS 2006 Alumni Well, it took some time to get back on track. I’ve had a pretty busy month. Let’s start then, where was I? Ah yes … Becoming an Alumnus. Well, I’m doing it for 1 year: getting out of AIESEC. For everyone its a different experience, some choose not to look back, some choose to gradually move out. For me not looking back was not an option. It would have broken me apart. AIESEC is addictive and letting go means changing a way of life that defined me for the last 5 years. And it’s hard, very hard to substitute what AIESEC gives you with the things you find in real life.

I’ve been to NPS some three weeks ago, and realized it’s finally over. It’s been a long but steady process and I finally accepted it and moved on. It no longer takes my breath a way, it no longer scares me to start new.

My “Last” LTS
November 20th, 2006

Me Painted Every year I keep telling myself “this is my last LTS”. I decided to drop this phrase, every year the same thing happens: I find myself on the LTS facilitators list. LTS was my first real AIESEC Conference where I had the most fun, where I discovered my first role-models, where I made my first friends, the place where I fell in love with AIESEC :).

If I look back I have so many memories, so many flash-backs from the last five years. I’ve seen five generation of people coming and going, many of them looking so scared and disoriented at first, growing, learning fast, becoming confident and bold and doing some of the most craziest and amazing things.

This LTS was special … well like every LTS is. For me, it felt good to work with old friends from Cluj-Napoca and Targu Mures, to watch the newies glow :), to actually mingle with some very bright people. I don’t know about you, but I find it most rewarding seeing people grow, having these “a-ha moments”, literally changing before your eyes. One of the sugar cubes I got was saying “I’m impressed with the intensity that you love people around you”. I can’t help it. Its a feeling I got at this conference, like being swamped with these emotions, these feelings. How can one not be touched by it?

In not so many words, I loved this LTS, it supercharged me with energy and positive feelings. This is what’s addicting about AIESEC :). This is why I’ll keep coming back. This is why I still go to the LC Meetings.

Message for the newies:
AIESEC has given me wings and learned me how to fly, maybe in one morning some of you will watch yourself in the mirror and see a shining pair of shiny white wings, maybe you’ll learn someday how to spread these wings and fly. It’s the most amazing feeling you’ll ever get. Don’t be afraid of what lies inside you, embrace the unknown and uncertain, be confident in your own powers, rediscover yourself and realize there are no limits of what you can do … and you’ll certainly get those wings.

Among Friends
August 24th, 2006

Hey,

I’ve always been attracted to the people from AIESEC Cluj-Napoca, always regarded them as my “brother” LC. They manage to recruit and retain some of the best people from AIESEC Romania, year after year.

Being at their planning conference was one those moments when you feel relaxed, warm and cosy among cool people, like being among friends. And I had this feeling all the 5 days I’ve been there.

I’ve picked the song[1] that is representative for these special people.

TtT
July 5th, 2006

Hey guys,

I strongly believe that life is full of surprises and that they come when you least expect them. Last weekend I’ve been trough the best facilitating experience of my AIESEC life (well my ex AIESEC life). I was supposed to be a quiet observer of the TtT[1] conference held in a small village near Sibiu called Tilisca and help out the OC. I went there because I was eager to meet some very good friends and wanted to relax a little. Once we arrived there it turned out that they needed an extra facilitator :) and guess what, no one else was available.

It turned out to be an awesome experience, starting the people attending there, the location, my friends in the NTT (National Trainers Team) and ending the agenda. I for one was amazed by the passion and the amount of work put into this conference by these guys, really wanting to learn, really wanting to grow, to become the best trainers they could.

I for one choose to leave AIESEC slowly, step by step and it’s been a process for the last 1,5 months. These last 5 years have been the most exciting years of my life and letting go is extremely hard, but it’s slowly happening.

AIESEC has been an amazing experience for me and has really turned my life around, helped me become the person I am today. I’ve did my best to give back to AIESEC at least a fraction of what I received and I hope I’ve accomplished that. I did and still do love AIESEC with all my heart and that’s why its so hard. I’ve learned tough to accept that this is a step I simply have to do. I’m moving to a new level, a new experience. Being at the National Congress last weekend strengthened my decision. It felt so good meeting some friends and seeing them still passionate about AIESEC, seeing happy faces, determination.

In the same time I realized I didn’t recognize half the people … feeling an itch, simply feeling like I don’t belong. And at the same time watching the official takeover, old people, just like me, leaving to new experiences and new ones taking over.

AIESEC will never stop to surprise me :).

Cheers,
The Lion.
